20-minute BBQ Sauce

Vegan BBQ Sauce

Cook and Prep Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 2 ½ cups

You Need

• 6 oz. Tomato Paste
• 3 T Tamari
• 3 T Apple Cider Vinegar
• 2 T Maple Syrup or Coconut Nectar
• 1 T Onion Powder
• 1 T Garlic Powder
• 1 T Smoked Paprika
• 1 T Mustard Powder
• 1 t Chili Powder, optional
• 2 T Arrowroot Powder
• Salt & Pepper, to taste
• 2 cups Water, divided into 2 equal portions

  1. Bring a medium saucepan to medium heat. Then, add all of your ingredients except 1 portion of the water and the arrowroot powder to the pan. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, reduce heat down to medium. Cook for 5-10 minutes, depending on your desired thickness.
  2. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, whisk together the arrowroot powder and 1 cup water.
  3. Then, add the arrowroot slurry to your sauce, and whisk to combine. Cook until the sauce has thickened, 2-3 minutes.
  4. Allow the sauce to cool for 3-4 minutes before serving. Can be stored and refrigerated in an airtight container for about a week.
